Some things are just...wrong. Frighteningly, horribly wrong. And as we walked into a 5-star hotel in Cairo for luncheon, we were greeted by people in the costume of the pharaohs...with bagpipes.

And why not? The first mention of bagpipes in literature was in Egypt in 100BC. Of course, they probably weren't Highland pipes in tartan...

Which, I might add, clash horribly with their costumes...

I have a feeling smofbabe will chime in on this one also, but we saw Egyptian bagpipers at the Edinburgh Tattoo and at the end they carried around a pyramid. It was...different.

I'm not sure which is worse...your experience, or mine -- seeing these guys in Egypt, with the real pyramids visible in the background.

Either way...troubling.
