...the Martian moon Phobos is still stunning, as in this shot of the Stickney Crater. The crater is 9 km in diameter -- roughly half the size of the tiny moon itself. The photo was taken by the HiRISE camera onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

The U.S.S. Constitution is a commissioned naval vessel. Every day, at 8 a.m. and dusk, some of her cannons are fired at the Navy Yard, just as they are at every other U.S. naval station. The Constitution and the Navy will not stop firing their cannons because you moved to Charlestown and don't like the noise. Ooops! They've only been doing it since 1798.

Get over yourselves.

...but one of us frail types can by ghod save the lives of soldiers by taking down a mad shooter who managed to kill 13 and wound 38 at Fort Hood this week.

Want to reward police Sgt. Kimberly Munley for her amazing response? Slate suggests that medals are foolish.
